DISP membership

The four areas Defence assesses

DISP AREA 1

Governance

The right people, policies and reporting in place, so Defence can see that security is led from the top of your business.

DISP AREA 2

Personnel

Making sure everyone who works on Defence projects is properly screened and cleared, and that it stays that way.

DISP AREA 3

Physical

Protecting your premises, information and equipment to the standard your membership level demands, without overspending on what you do not need.

DISP AREA 4

ICT and cyber

Getting your systems and your team to the cyber security standard Defence sets, and keeping them there as threats change.

WHY DISP MATTERS

DISP is how Defence makes sure the businesses it works with keep its information, people and assets safe.

Your business will usually need DISP membership if you:

  • work with classified information or assets at PROTECTED or above

  • supply, maintain, store or transport weapons or explosive ordnance

  • provide security services for Defence bases or facilities

  • win a Defence contract that makes DISP membership a condition

Even when it is not required, membership shows Defence and the primes that you take security seriously. Without it, some doors stay closed.

Getting there is not a simple form. Defence expects real security arrangements across your whole business, the application takes months, and a weak application means more delays. Most small businesses do not know where to start, and that is exactly where we come in. We do the heavy lifting so you can keep running your business.

Not sure which DISP level you need?

There are four membership levels. Entry level covers OFFICIAL and OFFICIAL: Sensitive information. Level 1 covers PROTECTED, Level 2 covers SECRET and Level 3 covers TOP SECRET. The right level depends on the information you will handle and the clearances you need to sponsor. We will help you work it out.
